Combining film, sound, text and sculptural elements, Prouvost creates seductive and disorienting environments in which meaning is constantly shifting.<\/p>\n<p>Language, both spoken and visual, is central to Prouvost\u2019s practice. Through humour, mistranslation, missubtitled dialogue and poetic dissonance, she explores the distance between what is said, what is seen and what is understood. Everyday images are placed alongside unexpected phrases and surreal associations, creating fragmented narratives that resist straightforward interpretation.<\/p>\n<p>Among the works presented is a satirical video in which a curator\u2019s academic reflections on video art gradually collapse into absurdist language, including the phrase \u201cHow may feeling a cow can always be in?\u201d In It, Heat, Hit, Prouvost creates a hypnotic montage in which apparently innocent images gradually acquire an unsettling emotional charge, guided by rhythm, repetition and suggestion rather than conventional narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Prouvost\u2019s installations extend beyond the screen, combining videos with found objects, furniture, signs and other sculptural elements. These constructed environments function as theatrical spaces in which fiction and memory, personal experience and collective narratives become intertwined. The viewer is invited not simply to watch but to navigate an unstable reality in which images and words continually undermine one another.<\/p>\n<p>Questions Will Be Asked extends Prouvost\u2019s longstanding investigation into narrative and communication, asking what happens when language loses its authority and meaning becomes uncertain. Through humour, confusion and sensory immersion, the exhibition proposes alternative ways of experiencing and understanding images.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition was curated by Keith Whittle and Margherita Gramegna, with special thanks to Lux Artists\u2019 Moving Image, Steve Cairns at ICA, MOT International and the staff at Sallaumines | Maison de l\u2019Art et de la Communication, France.<\/p>\n\n<h5>Bio<\/h5>\n<p>Laure Prouvost (b. 1978, Lille, France) is a French artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses film, video, installation, performance, sculpture and text. Her work is characterised by fragmented narratives, playful language and immersive environments that explore memory, perception, communication and the relationship between fiction and reality.<\/p>\n<p>Prouvost won the Turner Prize in 2013 and represented France at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. Her work has been presented internationally at institutions including Tate Britain, London; Whitechapel Gallery, London; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Haus der Kunst, Munich; and the New Museum, New York.
