Forthcoming: Abbas Zehid
Projects in development span exhibitions and commissions, touring and residency programmes, live and moving-image work, and site-specific practice. One developing project involves a collaboration with Abbas Zahedi, whose interdisciplinary work brings together sound, physical materials and social concerns to explore systems of care and thresholds of experience. The project will create opportunities for experimentation and dialogue, connecting Zahedi’s practice with wider cultural and social contexts.
Working with artists, curators, producers and cultural partners, these projects progress from initial research and development through to production and public presentation. The emphasis is on fostering ambitious ideas, supporting cross-disciplinary collaboration and enabling new work to engage with diverse audiences internationally.
Abbas Zahedi (b. 1984, London, UK) engages with systems of care and thresholds of experience. Often uniting personal narratives and societal concerns, his work pairs sound with physical material to create conduits for reflection and dialogue. His interdisciplinary practice explores the relationships between individual experience, collective memory and social structures, creating spaces for encounter, listening and exchange. Zahedi is an Associate Lecturer at the Royal College of Art, London.
Zahedi’s key exhibitions and projects include Diaspora Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017), The Age of New Babylon at Lethaby Gallery, London (2018), How To Make A How From A Why? at South London Gallery (2020), 1 & 1 at Belmacz, London (2021), and The London Open 2022 at Whitechapel Gallery. In 2022, he presented Metatopia 10013 at Anonymous Gallery, New York, and Waiting With {Sonic Support}, for which he received the Frieze Artist Award. His subsequent projects include Holding a Heart in Artifice* at Nottingham Contemporary (2023), alongside presentations at Mahler-LeWitt Studios in Spoleto and Hauser & Wirth in London. Across these projects, Zahedi combines sound, sculpture and performance to explore care, collective experience, memory and social relationships.
