Installation: Yuko Mohri
*Moré Moré [Leaky]* marked Yuko Mohri’s first presentation at a UK gallery, presented at White Rainbow, Fitzrovia, London. Mohri (b. 1980, Tokyo, Japan) is an internationally recognised artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the relationships between machines, everyday objects, energy and the built environment.
The work forms part of Mohri’s long-term research into the Tokyo Metro and its makeshift systems of repair. Developed through research undertaken for the Nissan Art Award in 2015, which she won, *Moré Moré [Leaky]* recreates the improvised infrastructure observed throughout the city’s underground network. Found materials, machine parts, flowing water and photographic documentation of repairs are brought together in a responsive system that evokes the movement and unpredictability of the urban environment.
Mohri transforms ordinary objects into kinetic ecosystems, harnessing forces such as magnetism, gravity, temperature and light. For *Moré Moré [Leaky]*, materials gathered in London were combined with observations from Tokyo, creating a dialogue between two urban environments and connecting her research into infrastructure with her broader exploration of hidden systems, energy and chance.
Yuko Mohri (b. 1980, Tokyo) is a Japanese artist whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses installation, sculpture, sound, photography and kinetic systems. Her work reconfigures everyday objects, found materials and mechanical components to explore invisible forces including magnetism, gravity, electricity, temperature and sound. Through research and fieldwork, Mohri creates responsive environments in which movement, chance and interaction become central to the work.
Mohri represented Japan at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024. Her work has been presented internationally at institutions including Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan; Artizon Museum, Tokyo; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; and Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. She has also participated in the Gwangju, Sydney, São Paulo and Lyon Biennales, and received the Grand Prix of the Nissan Art Award in 2015.
